Evidence of Germany

Since my blog has been a bit poor in terms of photos recently I wanted to post a few to show that I haven't forgotten how. A couple of photos of lovely Leipzig are enough to show how it is a place full of fantastic contrast...

Between the very elegant, high culture side of the 16th to 19th centuries...

Goethe statue at Naschmarkt, Leipzig

... as demonstrated by J W Goethe himself whose three (I think) years spent living in Leipzig are commemorated in this statue,

and the later, more industrial Leipzig shaped by the GDR and taken over by the hipster scene in more recent years...

Soup family, Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse, Leipzig

Last but not least a quick picture of the rather minimal souvenirs that I brought back from Germany, of course sock yarn and East German confectionary were the obvious choices!

German souvenirs

So there you go! See you soon ;o)

what is it about germany and sockyarn? its full of it! patterned stuff especialy.

sockyarn and giant 400g balls of acrylic, those are my strongest memories of my last trip to germany.

(actually that's not true, I went to Bonn and did more museum visiting than is normal)_
